Common Knowledge: T'zer, bronze Sraddhath's rider, is probably best known for being the short one with the ever-shiny boots and not a hair out of place. He's a neatnik with an attention to detail that serves him well as a weaver apprentice but may drive others up the wall. Judgemental, and not always sensitive to others' feelings when he gets annoyed, but he's a decent, well-meaning fellow at heart. His friends value his intelligence and wit and try to tolerate his quirks.
Character Name: T'zer
Birthdate (age): Month 5, Day 6 (19)
Gender: Male
Birthplace: Southern Weyr
Current Location: Last Hope Weyr
Family:
Father - Z'rolen, bluerider, deceased
Mother - Tyli, lower caverns, Last Hope Weyr, 35
Half-sister - Feyli, apprentice weaver, Last Hope Weyr, 17
Half-sister - Terlina, weyrbrat, Last Hope Weyr, 12
Half-sister - Tibryn, weyrbrat, Last Hope Weyr, 11
Half-sister - Lindi, weyrbrat, Last Hope Weyr, 7
Half-brother - Cayl, weyrbrat, Last Hope Weyr, 6
Probably numerous other half-sibs by his father
Physical Description: T'zer has finally gained that last growth spurt he hoped for, but it's left him at a disappointing (and final) 5'7" and not an inch taller. He has a naturally small, light-boned build, but he's actually put on quite a bit of lean muscle since Impressing. His orange-red hair is shorn short in the very back, but left just longer than shoulder-length on the sides and front. It looks odd when it's left down, but unless he's sleeping, he parts it in the middle and keeps these long locks pulled back in a small ponytail (not at the back of his neck, but slightly higher on the back of his head). He likes long hair but hates the feel of it on his neck, and his hair is naturally very thick, so this has been a nice compromise. His brown eyes are a bit narrow, his face angular and sharp-featured save for the rounded tip of his slightly snub nose, which might be cute in a different face. He may not have gotten as tall or as broad as he wants, but he did start sprouting facial hair rather early, and he usually keeps a very sparse, coarse line of stubble growing on his chin, cheeks, and jaw. It isn't obvious enough to be called a real beard, and he never can seem to grow the moustache to go with it, but he keeps it because he can't stand to be mistaken for a younger boy than what he is.
He also carries the redhead curse of fair, burn-prone skin, and so wears long sleeves, pants, and a hat year-round. As long as the material is light and cool, he would rather play it safe. Besides, bad sunburns are embarrassing when you're sixteen and intent on looking your best at all times. When not working, he keeps his clothes meticulously neat, and always belts his pants and tucks his shirts in. Bright colors are his favorites, and no one has ever quite been able to convince him that redheads should never wear red. His favorite combination is a crimson tunic with black pants, but that outfit is generally reserved for gathers. He shines his boots, even the old ones. It doesn't help for long, but that just gives him a reason to shine them again... really, he's a bit obsessive-compulsive about it.
Personality: T'zer is intelligent and quick to catch on to new concepts, but is easily distracted by the next interesting thing to come along. Sometimes you really have to light a fire under him to get him to perform to his full potential. Right now the quickest way to do that is to put him in direct competition with boys his own age, because he has a strong need to prove himself to his peers. Perhaps he just needs to mature some more, but right now he's self-centered and short-sighted. His most important concerns are whatever happens to be bothering him most at the time, and his most important goals are to obtain whatever will please him right this moment, even if it's something that he knows full well will get him in trouble later. Though he's generally pretty friendly around familiar faces, he often makes snap judgements about new people and it takes a lot to get him to change his mind after that first impression. He's ridiculously meticulous about his own appearance and is quite the neat freak, so a dirty or rumpled appearance will ruin his impression of someone faster than anything else. He is easily annoyed but rarely loses his temper in a spectacular way -- usually he just simmers at "mildly peeved" until the offending party leaves. Tyzer can be a bit of a control freak when he gets annoyed, though, and if things aren't progressing fast enough for his taste, he'll start bossing folks around until everything is taken care of to his satisfaction. It's his neat-freakiness coming out. His most annoying habit, though, is his inability to remember the names of people he doesn't already know well. It wouldn't be so bad if he didn't feel the need to start calling them by some painfully blunt descriptive nickname instead. "Hey, Big Nose, come here. Where's Fat Kid?" He has an opinion about everything, and he'll offer it even if no one asks. He's also very good at seeing the bigger picture, and how little things can easily get out of control, but he often complains that no one listens to him. Someday he'll be very good at understanding politics, but he'll never be sensitive enough to people's feelings to be a diplomat.
History: Tyzer was born at the Weyr, the product of the mutually pleasurable encounter of a young caverns worker and an older bluerider. He was his mother's first child (though certainly not his father's first) and thus she always had a bit of a special place in her heart for him, particularly since he was her only boy for almost thirteen full turns. His father acknowledged him in a friendly but distant sort of way, and they were never close. His mother bore five more children in time, four of them girls, and Tyzer and his siblings grew up as fairly normal weyrbrats, squabbling and fighting and getting into their fair share of trouble.
As a child, he did well in his lessons but found it difficult to focus for long and often got impatient with his slower peers. The harper noted that he wasn't the sort of boy that should be left with idle hands or mind, and so he was encouraged from an early age to start considering the crafts. As an able-bodied (if small) weyrbred lad, he would stand as a candidate when the time came of course, but there were fewer dragons these days and no guarantees even in the best of times, so why not plan ahead? He didn't care for planning ahead, but it wasn't that hard of a decision for him to make -- at age 11 he apprenticed as a weaver, where he found himself quite happily occupied by doing tiny, intricate things with his hands all day.
His attention to detail made him a good weaver, but it's hard to ignore one's duty to the Weyr, and to Pern, in tough times. He stood as a candidate for Truth's first clutch, and was as surprised as anyone when he Impressed bronze Sraddhath. As one of less than a handful of bronzeriders still remaining on Pern, he suddenly had a lot more to think about, but the responsibility of his position wasn't really driven home until a threadscored man with Weyrleader knots dropped out of the sky... a man who turned out to be himself from the future.
